A 3 Step Natural Hair Regimen For Low Porosity Hair

When I was a busy working mom (now I’m a busy SAHM), I really didn’t have time to fuss with my hair. My hair was long, thick, and super coily which meant without the right products, it quickly became a frizzy, knotted mess. With this tailored 3 step hair routine, I got the longest wear out of my low porosity 3C/4A curls. This routine is so simple and can be customized to fit any hair type.

STEP 1: Pre-Poo
This first step is crucial to your natural hair regimen if you have very tightly coiled hair that knots and tangles very easily. If you desire to achieve growth and retain length, this is a gentle way of detangling your hair that will give it the extra protein or moisture that it needs while removing tangles with low manipulation thereby reducing breakage. All you need is your conditioner of choice, your fingers, and water in a spray bottle.

To begin, separate hair into 4 sections. To each section spritz water, apply conditioner, and finger detangle to remove any knots and shed hair. My conditioner of choice is the Aphogee Keratin 2 Minute Reconstructor. As my hair grows longer, I find that I need a regular dose of light protein for length retention. After each section is moisturized and detangled, allow the conditioner to sit uncovered for 5 minutes.

STEP 2: Wash and Condition
Cleanse each section separately with  the Co-wash Cleansing Conditioner  by Made Beautiful (FYI, this stuff smells amazing!). Once each section is clean, wring out most of the water and condition each section with the Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Strong Deep Conditioner. Allow it to penetrate the strands for 3-5 minutes and then rinse.

STEP 3: Style
My go-to style is the Wash and Go. For maximum definition and longevity, I use the ECO Styler Styling Gel with Argan Oil  by itself.  I rake and smooth the gel throughout my entire head and then I use my blow dryer to diffuse with warm heat on a low setting until my hair is about 75% dry. I then go about my day and let it finish air drying. When my hair is completely dry, it normally does not come out hard or crunchy, but in the instance that it does, I simply rub some Sweet Almond Oil on my hands and “scrunch the crunch.”
